Keeping your room and shared spaces clean is a shared responsibility. To help you manage your waste and recycling effectively, we've answered some of the most common questions below.
How do I dispose of my rubbish?
In your flat
Each kitchen has clearly labelled bins. Follow the guidance on your kitchen poster for what goes where, and make sure you empty your bins regularly to avoid smells and overflowing waste.
In your hall
When your flat bins are full, take the waste to your nearest bin compound and place it in the correct external bin. You can find the location of your closest bin compound by checking your halls site map.
External bin colours
- Purple bins — General waste
- Green bins — Mixed recycling (including glass)
- Brown bins or black bins with an orange lid — Food waste (food only, not packaging)
What else can I recycle in halls?
Batteries
Battery recycling boxes are available at your hall's reception. Please drop off any used household batteries here.
Waste or broken electrical items
Small electrical items can be placed in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) bins on your site. If you're unsure where these are, just ask at reception.
Unwanted but usable items
If you have clothes, food, kitchenware, or other items that are still in good condition but you no longer need, you can donate them to charity. Visit our charity donations page for more information.
What can be recycled in your flat bins?
