Bus and train travel between Erasmus Park and Southampton

Erasmus Park in Winchester is situated approximately 12 miles away from Highfield Campus. 

Trains from Winchester to Southampton

It is possible to travel by train between Winchester and Southampton with frequent direct train services scheduled each day between the two cities. The journey takes 8 to 15 minutes, depending on the train, to get from Winchester station to Southampton Airport Parkway depending on the service. 

You can then get the U1C Unilink bus from Southampton Parkway to Highfield Campus. Find full details of the bus routes on the Unilink website (www.unilinkbus.co.uk).

Many trains on this route also stop at Southampton Central Station, which is served by Unilink buses.

If you travel regularly by train, you may wish to purchase a Railcard which can provide discounts on eligible rail fares.

Winchester to Southampton bus routes

Unilink U7 bus

If you wish to travel to Southampton, you can use the unilink U7 bus route which connects Winchester with the University of Southampton's Highfield Campus. The journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes. You can find the current timetable on the Unilink website. The nearest bus stop for this service can be found on North Walls (SO23 8DB), a short walk from the Winchester School of Art.

Bluestar buses

The Bluestar number 1 bus  also connect Winchester with Southampton. The complete journey from Erasmus Park to Southampton City Centre takes approximately one hour, including the walk to Winchester Bus Station. You can board the bus at Winchester Bus Station.

The nearest stop to Avenue Campus is Avenue Subway, which is approximately  300 meter's walk away. The same stop is just over 1 kilometres walk from Highfield Campus.

An earlier stop on the same route is Bassett, Chilworth Roundabout, which is just over 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) from Highfield Campus. This may therefore be another convenient place to leave the bus.

Buses to Winchester city centre

The nearest stop to Erasmus Park for buses into Winchester city centre, is Moorside Road Bus Stop (SO23 7RU), a short walk away. 

SUSU Safety Bus

Erasmus Park residents staying in Southampton into the evening can use the free SUSU Safety Bus to travel home safely from Students’ Union venues on campus. It runs every evening during term time from outside SUSU Building 42 at Highfield Campus. There will be a dedicated trip each night at 21:00 for students living in Winchester. Additional trips may be available, depending on demand. Alternatively, drivers may be able to take Winchester students to a train station or bus stop.
